Guiding Lights

A couple of weeks ago a close friend of mine
experienced a tragedy that shook me to my
core. As I cried my tears and sifted through
my emotions I was drawn inward for  answers.
It's at times like these that we often look
inward and ask hard questions.
As I searched for my answers and focused
on what really mattered to me, it became
apparent the profound effect this woman, my
friend, has had on me. Her character, strength,
and integrity influenced and helped shape who I
am as a woman today. She has modeled great
parenting, been a staunch supporter,
especially when I most doubted myself,
taught me the freedom of non-judgement, and
most important unconditional love. I always
know that Sandy will tell me what needs to
be said, not simply what I wish to hear. I
value that gift, and yes it is a true gift,
above all. Yet, I could not ever remember
telling her this.

Why is it we are so quick to speak up when
something is wrong, yet when something is
right we simply let it be?  I know many who
have a daily gratitude practice but, how
often is that gratitude openly expressed?
Why do wee feel the need to keep quiet about
it? What a beautiful way to create moments
of joy, simple, yet highly effective.

There is a management theory that rests on
the premise that if you catch employees
doing something right and acknowledge it
immediately, you will encourage more of the
same. You will even find the same advice in
parenting books.
I believe we all inherently know this, yet
we are hesitant to put ourselves in that
vulnerable position. The chattering in your
mind says "they'll think I'm weird, mushy,
soft, crazy, or whatever your favorite adjective",
but in our hearts, our spirit longs to express this.
It really is a win-win situation; you're honoring
spirit in yourself and the other person. So
often we are unaware of how our actions and
energy impacts others and it can feel like
it really dozen't matter, when in fact it
matters a great deal. Let's start sharing
how much we matter to one another.

Despite the best of intentions, things pop
up and life moves forward, and it's all too
easy to forget. I'm suggesting that right
now, every person reading this, take the
time to call or write someone who has had a
positive impact on your life and let them
know. If you feel a bit uneasy, take a deep
breath and trust. (or just tell them your
coach made you do it!)
I would love to hear your thoughts you can
email them to me at coach@pathwayscoach.com

October 3, 2007

Hi {!firstname_fix},

It's been a busy week,
but I did get to the
beach to write for an
afternoon. The article
was for todays
newsletter, it was
difficult to write
yet, I needed to write
it. It is my way of
honoring my friend
Sandy and all that she
means to me. I hope
you enjoy it and it
inspires you.

I have decided to start
a practice of sharing
with my family and
friends, at a minimum,
yearly on their
birthday the impact
they have had on my
life. It makes me smile
when I think about
doing it. What will
you do?

As I complete another
trip around the sun,
there are some major transformations and
self discoveries
underway, I'll share
more in the coming
weeks.

Don't forget to check
out the upcoming
classes too.

Namaste',
Cathy

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness  month. This month the wellness corner will be focused on this.

The first step in breast health is awareness. Education is
important, there are just as many fallacies as truths out there
so use a reliable source. Here are a few:

Breast cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer
in women. The biggest risk factors are being female and aging.
Contrary to popular belief heredity plays only a small role, with
only 5 - 10% of breast cancer cases being inherited, commonly through the BRCA1 or BRCA2 genes.

There are many thing you can do to decrease your risk. Among them self examinations, diet, exercise, and envirnmental changes.
More specifics next week.
I love to hear from community members so please stay in contact!
