Is the Grass Really Greener on the Other Side of
the Fence?

I've been noticing the age old phenomenon lately
of people assuming that everyone else is better
off than they are. Sugarland's even got a song
about it "Everyday America".  A couple of recent
experiences highlighted this for me.

A few days ago while out with a group of friends,
I mentioned loving the French fries at the local
fair. It got quiet and someone said to me "You
eat that stuff? I thought you always ate
healthy!"  I was surprised, now generally I do
eat healthy but I love chocolate, coffee and
those French fries, and it's no secret that I do
indulge in those things (at times too much). I
asked why they would think that and the reply was
that "You always seem to have it so together".

On the other side of the coin, I've been wanting
to have lunch with a successful local author but
I kept telling myself she's too busy so I didn't
ask. A few weeks ago I attended a local
networking meeting, she was there as well and we
got to talking. Imagine my surprise when she
asked me to lunch!

The 'other side of the fence' phenomenon is
really a form of judgment, mostly of ourselves.
It's our culture to compare and as we compare we
assume that we are lacking. We do this almost
automatically, a mannerism, a certain style of
dress or speech, an attitude will cause us to
think wow she's got it all together and quietly
(or not so quietly) we mentally review our short
comings.
It holds us back from sharing what we're
feeling, asking that question that's been tugging
at us, or initiating a conversation with someone
we admire. It's the brunette wanting to be
blonde, the short one wanting to be tall, the
organized wanting more spontaneity, what if for
even one day we celebrate who we are today, right
here right now? What if we're all on the same
side of the fence? Letting go of assumptions
about ourselves and others, while not easy, is
such an empowering act. So ask that question,
share that thought, initiate that conversation
you may be surprised at how much you grow and
evolve.
I would love to hear your ideas for letting go of assumptions,
you can email them to me at coach@pathwayscoach.com

Hi {!firstname_fix},

I love the crisp Fall air, the scent of grapes and that sense of preparing(for what I'm not sure).  We're finally settling into a routine of sorts with school, sports and assorted social activities. I had the pleasure of attending my cousins wedding two weeks ago, it was inspiring to see the love and joy the couple was celebrating.
Fall is a good time to
reflect and take
action on something
you've been 'meaning'
to do for Oh say, 10
months or maybe 10
years.
If you need some
support reaching that
goal I have a
coaching spot open.
Through coaching I
enable the dreams of
others. If your
interested e-mail me
and we can set up a
discovery session
(as always
complimentary).
Don't forget to check
out the upcoming
classes too.

Namaste',
Cathy

Fall always brings an afternoon apple
picking at the orchard, in addition to
the fun of picking apples are a health
powerhouse. It seems that an apple a
day really may keep the doctor away.
Apples are full of fiber and
phytonutrients and have been shown to
lower blood cholesterol, improve bowel
function, reduce the risk of stroke,
colon & prostate cancer, type 2
diabetes, and asthma, as well as
promote healthy lungs. There was even a
recent study conducted in Lowell, MA
that suggested consuming apples and
apple juice may protect against cell
damage that contributes to age related
memory loss.
So eat up - before you forget. This
quick and easy baked apple recipe is
sure to please.(it's low cal too)

Baked Apples

INGREDIENTS
4 medium apples
1/4 cup brown sugar
4 teaspoons butter
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175
degrees C).
Scoop out the core from top of the
apple, leaving a well. Do not cut all
the way through. Peel a thin ring of
skin off around the middle of each
apple
Stuff each apple with 1 tablespoon
brown sugar and 1 teaspoon butter.
Place in a shallow baking dish with ½
inch of water and sprinkle with
cinnamon.
Cover with foil.
Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes,
until sugar begins to caramelize and
apples are tender.
