Is Work Life Balance a Myth?

Every where you turn you hear about work life
balance. It seems as if there's a nebulous work
life scale out there that weighs how well we
balance our lives. The image is that these scales
should always be in perfect balance. The reality
is, we live in a world where that scale is rarely
perfectly balanced.

Trying to live up to that unrealistic perfect
balance often leads to guilt, frustration, and
stress, some of the very things that work life
balance is supposed to cure. The ever familiar 'I
Should' be doing more (or less) of this or that
pervades our thoughts. We are constantly
measuring and coming up short against whatever
the current societal norms are. This robs us of
one life's greatest gifts, the present, while
getting stuck in an endless cycle of worry,
regret, and "shoulda, woulda, coulda's" . .

Rather than perfecting work life balance
integrating the areas of your life allows for a
more natural ebb and flow. Each person has a
different idea for what their best life looks
like. While focusing solely on work with no down
time for extended periods of time is sure to
present you with physical and emotional
challenges. There are no hard and fast rules, no
standards to meet. It all boils down to what
makes you happy.

Putting checkpoints in place to alert you when
you're in superman mode, like excessive sleep, a
body trigger such as a twitch or stiff neck, or
some other identifying behavior that you or
someone close to you can use as a reality check.
The other component is to schedule some
nonnegotiable down time activities with family,
friends, and yourself. Simple things like a
monthly family dinner to check in and connect,
daily 'me' time even 15 minutes, dates with your
spouse, and regular vacations (even mini ones at
home count).

By integrating all the parts of your life in this
way you create a life that suits you, feels good,
and are better able to focus on the gift of
today.

I would love to hear your tips for integrating
your life and checking for superman mode, you can
email them to me at coach@pathwayscoach.com

Hi {!firstname_fix},

The rush of back to school and end of summer is easing. I had some great beach time this summer with the kids and my Mom & Sister Pam. The two Kenney Chesney/Sugarland concerts I went to with my oldest daughter were
terrific. This fall brought some changes too my youngest son started high school(and loves it:), I recorded a meditation CD, and a couple of new projects are nearing completion.{and I thought summer was supposed to be relaxing}

Ahh, September... back to school, end of summer, cooler weather. It's a good time to reflect and take action on something you've been 'meaning' to do for Oh say,
 10 months or maybe years.
If you need some support reaching that goal I have 3 coaching spots opening up.
If your interested e-mail me and we can set up a discovery session(as always complimentary). Don't forget to check out the upcoming classes
too.

Namaste',
Cathy
